The Vobes Photo Album
A Walk around Winchester
I took a short walk around the delightful and extremely beautiful City of Winchester. It was the first capital of England and is home to some early Kings of the country. I start at the famous statue of King Alfred at the east end of the city and take the river walk, follow the old city wall and have a look at Wolvesey Palace, the Winchester College, the house that Jane Austin died in, the magnificent Cathedral, the Buttercross, the West Gate and the Great Hall.
A Trip to Norfolk
In September 2008, Jimmy Hastell and Richard Vobes went off at Greg Chapman's invitation to explore the scenic delights of Norfolk. Greg, a listener to the popular Vobes show, was host and took the boys around his village, east Walton, before zipping over to look at the area of Kings Lynn to see some of the sights and sounds in a whistle stop tour. They journeyed to the north end to meet Paul Richard's from the wonderful museum Trues Yard, met the boys of the Ouse Amateur Sailing Club, crossed the river in style on the ferry and had a slap up meal in the Hairy Hare public house.
A Trip to Lewes Castle
I met up with Sally White from Sussex Past who look after the magnificent castle at Lewes. It is an unusual castle because of the two mounds within the castle grounds. Through out the year are many events and demonstrations that help give the visitor an greater understanding of its wonderful history. Do have a listen to the interview by selecting the individual parts in the audio box to the left!
