Books that I Recommend
Welcome to the recommendations page, where I hope to inspire you to have a look at some of the wonderful books I have been reading myself recently.

This is my favourite book at the moment. Extremely well written. Brilliant attention to detail and personal stories. Juliet Barker brings the whole episode alive and really makes you part of the English army as it prepares, marches and faces the tremendous odds of the French. You cheer as the arrows fly and marvel at the stupidity of the French leaders! Ten out of ten. Recommemded reading!

Short Reading from The Worst Street in London
Listen to Reading
I have just finished this excellent book. The Worse Street in London by Fiona Rule. It is the study of one street and its surrounding area in London in the Spitalfields district. Originally open country, then in 1197 William Brune built a hospital. The fields to the south were used by the patients to walk about in and receive fresh air. In time a number of roads crossed these fields and slowly they became built upon. The Huguenot Weavers set up their looms there and turned out the world fabulous silk. But slowly as the ages pasted and more people poured into the area lodging houses were adapted from the weaving houses and the poorer members of the community gravitated here, living off the scraps from the market at Spitalfields. Thieves, prostitutes and murderers operated in this area and in particular one street was worse than the rest for crime and deprivation. Dorset Street. It was here that several the victims of Jack the Ripper lived and one, Mary Kelly, the last to have her life taken away by the unknown phantom of Whitechapel, died in a most gruesome and nasty manner.
