Wednesday 10th May 2006

Drive West Chicago to St. Louis down Route 66

Arrival - if the boys could arrive in St. Louis by 1 pm, it would make for a much easier schedule, but this may not be feasible. The trip from Chicago to St. Louis is typically about 5 hours, but even allowing for faster-than-average driving, I would still say 5 hours to 5-1/2 hours owing to the usual construction issues, getting lost, stopping for gas, etc. So if they leave Chicago (depending on what part of town they are departing from) by 8 am, that would be great. But I also understand if they have a late night or other issues. As long as they leave by 9 am for sure.

1 to 2 pm - unload at Bob's house, get acquainted

2:00 pm - travel downtown to riverfront

2:15 pm - brief tour by car of riverfront areas.

2:30 pm - park, walk to Becky Thatcher / Tom Sawyer dock.

3:00 pm - Riverboat Cruise aboard either the Becky Thatcher or Tom Sawyer. Includes tour of wheelhouse with Captain - Also a National Park Service Ranger will be on hand to discuss the river and its environs > - Cruise will also include a box lunch for the boys.

4:15 pm - Walk to Arch grounds

4:30 pm - Take tram to top of the Arch (last tram departs at 5:10 pm)

5:30 pm - Explore Arch grounds and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial museum to whatever degree they want, although museum closes at 6 pm. > > > 6:00 pm - Depending on mood, level of energy, etc. they may want to see a little more of the immediate downtown area. I've leave this to decide at the time.

7:00 pm - Dinner at Boardwalk Cafe

9:00 pm - Retire to Chez Blu
